The real life of an expat dancer

About Me

I'm an infinitely curious dancer from Brisbane, Australia and I've been lucky enough to have travelled the globe with my dance career. I left Brisbane at 21 and 8 years later I'm now in London sharing my stories, life lessons and experiences with you.
Here's a little insight: It's NOT as glamorous a life as some may think. This is an honest, true account of what it means to be a professional, flawed and determined dancer.

I’m currently sat at Heathrow Airport awaiting my flight home to Australia. I can feel a huge tide of emotion filling up deep inside me. Honestly, it blows my mind when I tell people I haven’t been home in 2 and a half years. A lot can happen in that amount of time, th...

Ladies, we urgently need to discuss this. It’s been on my mind a lot recently and I know many of us are having mental battles every day with this very, very serious dilemma. It’s a dilemma I know every female thinks about. We don’t want to think about it; in fact, we d...

I was 8 years old when I found out I had scoliosis. Little 8 year old me had pneumonia and needed a chest x-ray to look at my lungs; that was when doctors discovered my spine was curved in a slight S-shape (but my lungs were OK!).

It’s nothing new, all of us dancers are aware that the way we look is just as crucial to success as our hard work and talent. In both my training and career, I have been openly judged and professionally impeded countless times by my height, weight (both spectrums), bod...

It’s been a year since our one month trip through Europe. We’re seated at a busy pub in Parsons Green sharing an overpriced bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (forever pretending to be ladies of leisure), recalling and laughing at some of the crazy adventures we had...

I have noticed that most people I’ve spoken to recently about Valentine’s Day are not that fussed on it. “It’s just another day!” “I hate the crowds!” “Why would you go out on Valentines Day?!” I get it. To be honest, I don’t remember ever really enjoying a Valentine’s...

I’m going to talk about travelling. It’s something I have always loved from an early age. Experiencing a new culture, stepping into someone else’s shoes and seeing the world from a whole new perspective is a gift. To travel is to see a place unlike anything you have se...

I live on the other side of the world from my family and most of my friends. I am single. I have spent all of my savings. My main source of income is the lowest hourly rate I’ve ever earned. I have to work extra jobs to get by. I pay the highest rent I’ve ever paid.
